It's a matter of boundaries. There are some things one should simply
never say, period. There are things one should say only when one is
in the company of close family or other like-minded people. And
there are things it is appropriate to say in public.

I think the trouble with contentious OT list posts arises mostly
because some of us get to feeling that the list is a cosy little club
of like-minded people, all of whom share their own personal
viewpoint, their prejudices, and their sense of humor about
everything. But it's not -- it's a not-so-little group of people who
are like-minded ONLY in that they are interested in R390/390A
receivers and closely related topics. Beyond that, their viewpoints
and prejudices and senses of humor -- on religion, politics, music,
patriotism, guns, abortion, gay marriage, Israel vs. Palestine, Fox
vs. MSNBC, .45 vs. 9mm, computer operating systems, and all other
contentious topics -- are as varied as any other slice of the general public.

So, what one posts here should adhere to the rules for what it is
appropriate to say in public, NOT what may be said only when one is
in the company of close family or other like-minded people. The
comments on the antifreeze thread were the latter, not the former
(and some might even argue that they were things one should simply
never say, period).

The posters to whom I was referring either mistakenly assumed that
the list comprises only other like-minded people, so they felt it was
acceptable to say here what they would not say in public; OR they
have no clue what is acceptable to say in public. Either way, the
good people of the list should not have to put up with it.

Best regards,

Charles
