FWIW, I'm a moderator on a very large hobby site. I've moderated daily for 9 years in the forums, and I've had to ban members, delete their posts, modify their posts, and put them on a status where their posts were screened before releasing to the forums. Just saying this because I've learned a few things the hard way. I've made some dumb calls that blew up.
First, the moderator always loses. Period. No matter what he does, half will hate it, half will still remember what they hated last week, half won't care, and half won't post anything no matter what.
Moderating, censoring, editing, whatever you want to call it kills the spirit of the activity. Rarely does it help. Sometimes it does, but mostly it is just using a new problem as a tool to tackle the original problem.

Now, I don't think it should be so hard-line to hinder group activity, but I do think a moderator should try to bring the group back on topic. Where do you draw the line? I don't know. I have learned, though, that technical expertise in one area doesn't mean there's no cracked eggs in the basket. Personally, I try to ignore it, but sometimes it starts getting to me. Sometimes it seems that we're getting a tad too easy to want to wish harm. Maybe the stress of years of hard times brings that out in us.

Really changed this country for the worse, and I mean the hate, not the election. It seems to me there was a big effort to help move this hatred along. I never saw such a thing before then, felt as if the America I loved as a kid just became a toilet of hate.

Where in the world is all this hate of animals coming from? QRZ.com and EHAM.com has much better forums without the views of mentally defective individuals.
