[R-390] another ballanced/unballanced connector question?

hello
 
there is one antenna input mod where you swap two internal coax connections then short the 2 conductors on the balanced connector.
this runs the unbalanced connector through all the stages.
 
the second mod involves grounding one balanced conductor then feeding the other.
 
has anyone compared the "real world" performance of each mod?....lower average noise pickup and or increased sensitivity?
 
would love to hear some opinions !!
