Far to many years ago, when I had a job with the USAF at Robins AFB, I went to a 40 hour school on NASA soldering techniques.

I seem to recall if you could not see the weave of the strands of the stranded wire on a terminal, there was too much solder.

At Ground Radio school at Keesler AFB we spent 2 days on nothing but soldering. At the time, they said the NASA certification class was 2 weeks.

My dad worked for IBM from the mid 50's thru the mid 70's on the defense department guidance system stuff as well as a little bit on the Apollo project. I guess one of the things he did was designing wiring harnesses, and weight was definitely a major factor in the design!
