[R-390] Slippage when tuning

That really does sound like gear backlash. Are the backlash springs on the
associated gears under 1-2 teeth of tension?

The described effect of being a bit challenging to tune; eg.. tuning an SSB
signal. Really does sound like gear backlash.

There is also a spring on the Oldham coupler that should keep you from
having backlash there. I mention that because the coupler does have "slop"
on the motion if the spring is not in place.
