I wonder if as they age they become at all hygroscopic? That would be disasterous, of course.
Has anyone done any work on this?
If not, I shall test a few samples which I have carefully preserved, taken out of gear (not 390s) of the same era.. These were saved in order to replace broken ones in 'required' gear.
I might end up buying a few dozen PTFE modern equivalents if the results dont look too good.
Could be that we need to start considering shotgunning terminal posts as well as capacitors.....

They are indeed very easily broken, especially when applying heat for desoldering, etc. NOS replacements can still be found in this configuration from places like eBay and this site:

The nylon or ceramic versions (they usually don't have twin posts, though) are much more durable and can be found a bit easier.
