You can also take the power switch apart relatively easily, clean the
contacts with a contact file and re-install it. Putting a .05 @ 1KV
across the switch might help supress the arc but as we've discussed here
before, the inrush on the radio is fairly substantial.

Besides removing the screws securing the switch assy to the FUNCTION
cluster, there are also what appears to be aluminium rivets holding the
switch body together. These have a very low pitch thread on then and
can be backed out. Use a knife blade under the head, and pack them away
just enough to get some purchase on the head. Pull with a set of needle
nose or small pliers; they will try and twist as they are pulled out.
"Assist" the twisting action to remove them. There are also 2 snap tabs
on the switch, carefully disengage those and the switch can be taken
apart like a clam-shell.

CAREFUL!!! Some of the parts inside are spring loaded and are capable
of flying to parts unknown if allowed. Take a small contact file and
clean both sides of the switch contacts. Re-assemble and enjoy.

No trees were killed to deliver this message. However, a large number
of electrons were terribly inconvenienced.
