It has some discussion of the bandswitch.  Some old list posts (1995 
era) also have some comments, including Jan's.

The synchronization procedure is covered in the various maintenance manuals:

    TM 11-856A (1956) -- pp. 153-154 and Fig. 87 on p. 186

    TM 11-5823-358-35 (1961) -- pp. 110-112

    Y2K_R3 manual -- pp. 6-7, 6-8.  See also pp. 9-63, 9-64, 10-25, 26, 27
