Combine the approaches.
Thermistor as delay element, and the relay shorts it out.
A CL90 and a 120VAC relay, that's it.
Three connections, all at the power inlet.
Or they can go in a box along with your
bucking transformer for the ultimate in
non-intrusion.

On the other hand, it makes me laugh to hear the CL90
called a fire hazard when the R-390 came with two 6082's.
