Yes, and there are accounts of successful repair using this technique.
One critical point is that the tape's adhesive must be unaggressive,
otherwise it will grab onto delicate bits you DON'T want to remove.
When I used 3M "Scotch" tape, I treated it beforehand by repeatedly
pressing it to my skin or other handy object until it was only slightly sticky.
