Actually the Class D chip power amps on a small PC board are real cheap, powered by 9-12VDC.... what I did was take a external computer speaker box that had a very hefty 40W 4" speaker, and mount this tiny amp inside. Hooks up to the diode load BNC jack as is. It will give you true hi-fi and not take up valuable space. 

Another option is to pull V603 and make up a simple plug-in amp, thus preserving your R390A.

Of course, all this are options, if you don't want to use a *real* amp with 6L6's or 6BQ5's.......
