Indeed, Bill is right.
No disrespect intended. Walt's suggestion was THE solution for a number of years to the 600 to 8 ohm audio solution unless, one >happened< to lucky enough to stumble upon a surplus 600 to 8 ohm transformer. The speaker mounted Line Transformers work and work orders of magnitude better than either using no transformer, or getting (when they still offered them) one of those tiny Radio Shack 500/8 ohm audio transformers that would saturate even with an R390A's comparatively low output.
They are also useful if you happen to have a line transformer and don't wish to spend $30 on a Hammond transformer.
Out of the box solutions are what will keep these fine receivers working. There are already spare parts issues with PTO's and power transformers. I doubt that Hammond will make an R390A power transformer; perhaps it will be Walt or someone like him that will come up with a workable solution benefiting us all.
Keep posting Walt.... your ideas, as do others make us all think.
