Note:

That document is in places very specific to the equipment used.  In  
particular, it gives instructions on how to manage the sweep images  
from the sweep going "up" and then coming "down" in frequency.

Many sweep generators nowadays (or even from some decades ago) have  
the equivalent of retrace blanking to eliminate the trouble of  
accounting for both up and down traces.  With any of these systems,  
one important thing is to get the frequency sweep speed down low  
enough to avoid distortion in the picture you get.
