Hi, Roy,
You're close! The hole actually resembles an elongated "0" with two parallel flat sides.
On a related note, I think someone asked where the green gear lives when it's not deployed. Its "parking space" is located above and slightly to the left of the second gear on the left hand side of the geartrain front.
Now we all know what that threaded hole is for, so put the green gear back when you're done so you don't lose it!

Can someone confirm or deny that the center hole of the Green Gear is
D-shaped?
I thought it is, but can't get to one to confirm.
