Maybe 10 or more years ago, one of the radio-related magazines published
an article on the results of testing various cleaning solvents on the
kind of metals we normally encounter. The focus was on residues left
after cleaning and the possibility that some of our cleaning methods may
be doing more harm than good by acting to facilitate corrosion.

I can't find the article or remember where it was published - wonder if
anyone else remembers it? The author used blank steel for electrical
box cover plates as the test material if that rings any bells. It
would be good information to have.
