One of the first, if not the first big dissertation from Nolan back in
97-98 was a story about retrieving one of his R-390As from the attic
of his house where it had resided for a number of years and temps
soared well over 100 degrees. Then clearing the mud dauber nests out
of it, cleaning, aligning, re-tubing, whatever it was he had to do to
it, and how easily it came back to life and worked fine. If I remember
right, he then placed it in a rack and ran it 24/7 for a year or two
before pulling it out of service to check tube life. He called it The
Flight of the Phoenix after the old Jimmy Stewart movie I think.

No mention of Otis or using his night vision device to 'see' the cats
in the field behind his house. Just a typically-amusing and
interesting story of resurrecting an old R-390A. It's saved somewhere
in an old inbox file from when I changed email years ago. Lord only
knows where.
