Thanks guys, good to see a few of the old farts still hanging around.
You probably won't see a lot from me as I really don't have a lot to
add. I figure the first 7-8 years covered it pretty well.

I do want to say thanks to Don for maintaining this list and keeping
things civil over many years, now. I had the good fortunate of meeting
Don at Dayton in 2007 and can verify that he's certainly as much of a
gentleman in person as he is here. In fact, he helped me out with some
tubes for an old military transmitter I picked up a few years back,
expensive tubes that he would take no payment for. BTW Don, that
transmitter had to find a new home before the move south but I still
have the tubes, and they'll be coming back to you the next time they
surface.

A number of folks sent personal email messages wondering where I'd
been, what's been going on, etc. I never actually left the list,
simply decided to go into 'read-only' mode. Self-imposed exile, if you
will. It was time, my level of tolerance for a lot of stuff on the net
was at an all time low and I didn't have a lot more to add from a
technical perspective.

So to answer as many questions as I can at once - I'm still very
active in radio, particularly in AM and big iron, as well as my
original passion for early, pre-war radio stuff. I've managed to stay
occupied and out of trouble for the most part, if you don't count
getting married in 2006. The biggest change has been the move south,
from VT to NC in which I gained a couple acres of land for aerials but
lost 1500 sq ft or so of living space. As a result, the radio 'plie'
has dropped from 400+ to about 150, and still shrinking. Still have my
R-390 and two A models, including the Teledyne with odd Parametrics
Inc tag (anyone remember a company called Space Research?) and a nice
EAC picked up a few years back, currently residing with George
Rancourt, K1ANX for a tune up. (Do I still owe you a photo of that
Parametrics tag, Tom?)

Aside from that, I stay pretty busy with NEAR-Fest, AMfone.net, the
AMRadio list and a few other things online. And the work is never done
here at home with getting and keeping things on the air. I will say
that marriage has really cut into my radio time, but it does have
its...benefits? My wife is a History major among other things, Cold
War buff, Cuban Missile Crisis and so on, and claimed the EAC as her
own. There are other benefits too.

A lot of good memories from this list, all the IERC tube shield
investigation and later swap done with Bill Cotter and others here,
The Orange Drop Chronicles with Chuck Rippel, Nolan's Flight of the
Phoenix (which I still have somewhere), the detailed postings from Dr
Jerry, and of course - more Barrys than any other list I know of. Got
to meet a number of the old list members in my travels to the PNW, FL,
Dayton and elsewhere, good folk one and all. Still hoping to meet Hank
one day to discuss aircraft as well as radio gear.

So there ya go - 7 years in a few paragraphs. You all did just fine
without my comments and will continue to do so, I'm sure. I'll be
here, somewhere in the background, harassing Les when he lets his
guard down and tinkering with the old rigs.

I just hope you had a bet with John Flood or someone else on here,
Les. You could've made out like a bandit. (o:
