[R-390] HP-410B Question

I have an HP-410B that I'm restoring. It has a small value cap (5000pf or so) across the meter but it also has a 50uF cap across the meter as well. I've been advised to just remove that 50uF cap as it isn't really needed (it's not on some of the newer models).

Was this just to make the meter settle slowly after placing a voltage across it? It seems it could be a good thing to keep (replace with new since it's probably a dried-up electrolytic) but I was wondering just what it's for (especially since HP apparently stopped using it in later versions of the 410B). Perhaps the newer meter movements didn't need it?

Thanks,
