Good morning to all in the group. A few hours ago I ran up the variac into the 390 that I've been restoring and got some smoke from the crystal oscillator assembly. It appears that a cap shorted taking out a 2200 ohm resistor and scorching the tag board it was mounted on. I replaced the moribund parts and continued on, finding the indicator dial way off on the xtal osc unit, I proceeded to sync that up and eventually got signals!! I wasn't expecting that so soon. I don't have any AGC but it works quite well otherwise. The XYL suggested setting up a blog with pix for your enjoyment(and my ego)  somtime soon. I shot many photos of the RF deck in the ultrasonic cleaner and such, documenting this project. My only regret at this time is not getting a photo of the mouse nest in place. My first instinct is always to get the shop vac. It sure looks pretty with all the gears and cams nice and clean!! This project also involved replacement of the wiring harness which also went better than expected. I'll post a link here to the blog when it becomes a reality, don't hold your breath just yet. I am self employed (as a clocksmith) and have already devoted wayyy too much time on this project and the mortgage payment is lurking ahead.  73's Ross W1EKG
