Did ya ever drink some of that stuff cold? Dark ones, especially, are much better when not so cold. Unless it's a lager, I don't even put it in the fridge anymore! ;-)
I'm kinda fortunate I guess in that I went to school for ground radio in the AF in 77. After basic electronics (which covered hollow state, mainly, they got around to transistors for the last couple days) we jumped into Rx theory using the R390 as an example. I remember using colored pencils and tracing out all the individual signal, power and control paths. Trouble shoot with the half split method. Then they went and shipped me to a comm station at Hickam where all I worked on was operator consoles and patch panels. Never touched a single radio after school! Finally got my R390a in the early 90's. Haven'y had to do much in the way of repair. Replaced the cap that's underneath back by the selenium rectifier. Did Chuck's audio mod. I keep threatening to do the mech alignment at some point. I haven't had a bench for some years but recently moved into a new QTH that we pretty much gutted and I have a dedicated room for my shack now and I'm looking forward to working on the different radios I've accumulated. And today I think I'm going to go buy an HQ-129x from an old fellow who got it from the original owner, who is now a SK. I'm a bit excited!
I personally get a lot out of this list as well as some others. I try to search when I have a question and that can sometimes be frustrating and fruitless. If everyone found all their answers that way, this would probably be a sparse list. Thanks to everyone for providing the informative discussions.

But unlike those of the Jaguar, the switches and wiring harness of the R-390 family are fairly reliable.
Say, you know why the British drink warm beer? Because Lucas make refrigerators too!
