[R-390] First radio thread

Turn back the clock.
My "first" short wave radio was a Philco 116X. Ca 1936
Long wave, BC, and SW to 22 mcs.
Dad bought it second hand about 1938-39.
We lived in a canyon in the mountains in Oregon.
Dad ran a LONG wire up the side of the canyon for an antenna.
We listened to the world during WWll.
Probably heard some things we weren't supposed to, but I was just a kid.
After the war folks were "rich' and bought a new Silvertone AM console
with 3 yes count them, 3 speed record player. FM hadn't been invented yet.
The old Philco went to my bed room and became my first receiver.
Heard my first ham transmissions on it.
What? we could talk to each other.
Several surplus pieces of junk later I wound up with a BC-779 and a home
brew
transmitter, pair of 6V6's with the crystal tied between the grids. Circuit
is in an old
CQ or QST. I have it some where.
Novice ticket WN7HPK came next and the rest is history.

Thanx

My first radio was a R-390A HF (high-frequency) receiver given to me by my
Uncle in 1966, during 1967 I spent many hours with that radio, but that is
another story.
