[R-390] First radio thread

Such great memories have be evoked by all this reminiscing! 

My first radio was a kit I built as a freshman in high school - I don't
remember what brand it was, I built it all by myself & listened to it as
I watched the tubes glow - it was the ultimate nightlight!

A lot of (most, all?) old radios have lost that radio version of the
"new car smell". I don't know of anything today that comes close to, or
has as much nostalgia, as that first whiff of a newly opened Heathkit
box.  Someone should have bottled that aroma :-)

My first radio?  Ocean Hopper.
