First SW radio was a multiband japanese transistor set in 1968. I left it in
lay away at Woolworth's and paid $49.00 hard earned summer job $$ for it.
The name of the set was Muskat (of all names) and it had only one SW band,
AM, FM, PB, Air and weather. Images and noises were everywhere but it was
the first one. This one has an almost incredible story. It was stolen from
my parent's home in 76. In 2006 I found it in a thrift store all dusty but
complete. How do I know it was mine? I never forgot a repair that I made in
the connection to the telescopic antenna. I had used an ugly yellow
electrical tape for this. Also when replacing the back cover of the radio I
lost one of the screws and substituted it for a longer one. Guess what, the
yellow tape and long screw were there. The radio is now restored and used
mainly for FM.
First real SW radio was a Navy TCS 12. It was also the first one I ever
restored and even built a power supply for it. After this one I was hooked.
