My start was at about the same time and along the same path.
I had an uncle give me an S-38 when I was 9.
I almost killed myself with the hot chassis.
I still used it through age 17.
While living in Jamaica this was my contact with the modern world.
I reported the top 40 hits from the BBC and the US for the Priory
School newspaper.
I listened to WLCY Tampa/St Pete almost every night.

Before we moved to Jamaica, my father bought a Zenith Transoceanic.
We used that to keep contact with news from the US.

When we moved back stateside, I was given a SRR-13 that had been used
on USS Banner, the USS Pueblo sister ship.
At least that is what I was told by the ex CT that gave it to me.
I used that receiver for many years.

I am now 60 and have many receivers, most in need of repair ( that is
the way I bought them).
I will have time to enjoy them soon, after I retire.
In the lot are at least three R-390A, A SP-600, some WJ receivers and
a lot of ex military receivers and transceivers.
