I have been reading this list for a while, even though I didn't have an
R-390 or R-390A. That all changed yesterday when my very first R-390A
followed me home in the trunk of my car. This is my payoff for
religiously watching Craigslist. I got a very good deal on this. The
seller said this radio belonged to his father and has been in his
closet for 4 yrs. He also said his father had sent this radio to a well
known Ham and tech here in Oregon to be refurbished. This radio has not
been fired up for about 10 yrs.
This is an EAC Ser# 6451, 1967 contract. Removing the covers, it is
mint inside except for a little dust and a few small cobwebs, showing
no evidence it has ever been messed with.
I would appreciate if someone would go over the things I should check,
and do, before I plug into my Variac and begin to warm this radio up.
Also, I am in need of the antenna adapter for unbalanced line, if
someone has one for sale. Also, the front panel nameplate is missing.
While not a priority, I would like to have one.
I have downloaded the manuals from the BAMA mirror, so I have lots of
study materiel. However, I know the manuals do not deal with the
problems of a radio made over 40 yrs. ago.
I have been doing Boatanchors for a while, however this is the most
sophisticated piece I have worked with. Previously, my biggest project
was a complete recap of my SP600 J11. It works very well (I used the
716P Orangedrops).
Many thanks in advance for your help, and for answering all the
questions I am sure to have.
