Well, the AGC response can't be wider than the actual selected 
listening response because the AGC feed is long after all IF 
filtering.  Making Z503 a bit wider just allows for a skosh of 
mistuning (of Z503) due to temperature or component drift.  I can 
tell you from experience that you don't want it too much narrower 
than the listening bandwidth.  I have gone through hell to try to 
correct some DSP radios that have this fault, and there were a number 
of boatanchors we laughed at in the day for the same reason.
