Yup. I've restored several hundred vintage radios, hi fis,
musical instrument amps, test equipment, etc. in the last 35
years... I HAVE had brand new, current production capacitors
fail; and so on. I give a LIFETIME warranty on what I fix; a
five year warranty on the rest of the device (excluding
lightning and abuse). I can do this because I test the crap
out of everything, anything even slightly questionable gets
replaced, I use good quality parts; I make modifications to
limit surge and "modern voltage" issues where needed, and I
give the customer a schematic showing exactly what was
checked (the specific readings, etc.); what was done; and
how the unit now performs. I just completed an entire
"vintage" test equipment setup for a recording studio - all
of their test equipment is vintage HP and Tek... went
through a pile of 400H, 200CDs, etc. They've been
delighted with the results.
Back to caps... I bought some caps from a well-known
supplier - yellow axials... one of them shorted within a
month - took out a screen resistor, but nothing else
(fortunately) that's the ONLY return item I've ever
had... Learn my lesson. Buy good stuff.
