The difference in performance between the two R-390A/URRs that you did 
have so many variables that it is impossible to say why.  Could be the 
difference in alignment, methodology of restoration, or different 
manufacturer of the actual radio.

You have been using HP equipment lately.  What did you use before that?

Yes, BUT what is being discussed is SURGES and the SELF HEALING properties.

Everything EXCEPT my BC-610 and T-213 is *ALWAYS* powered through a 
SURGE SUPPRESSOR!

I've seen too many things get zapped!

I guess it was about two years after getting licensed, 1980, that ANY 
power strip I owned had MOVs added.  I then began procuring ONLY those 
that are "Surge Protected".

So I haven't had ANY problems.

My guess is that "some" things get overblown.  Everyone needs to step 
back and evaluate THEIR situation.  Then make your decisions and choices.
