Oh, did I mention that through the top 600kc of the pto range, you can tune
the set by grabbing the bare KC CHANGE shaft with your fingers?

This is a good stopping point for the day...

So I got the pto covering 3455-2455 over 10 turns, the receiver more or less
put back together [not final reassembly which is still pending an ashtray
full of leftover screws and lockwashers HI], shot 455 kc through E211, found
the calibrator signal on most bands [notwithstanding the still-broken slug
on one band]...and on a 12" coax jumper to the UNBAL input with the center
pin held between my fingers, was able to hear WWV on 10 Mc.

The fact the RF deck has a 6BZ6 in place of a 6DC6, bothers me a bit. I'm
thinking a complete new tube set in their blaah-colored JAN boxes might be
money well spent.

I feel much better now, and I thank everyone here for their kind replies and
support to date.

Only [ahem] one question this time around--Z503 with it's single slug, is it
normal for the slug to be almost all the way 'in' [bottomed] at 455kc?
