To really appreciate an R-390A you need to live in the middle of nowhere to
get away from the worst noise sources. The way it is going, most hams are
living in such a high noise environment I doubt can even benefit from an
R-390A.

A good way to think about it, imagine trying to be an amateur astronomer
while living in the middle of a major city. Most folks there can barely see
the brightest stars and have no idea of what the Milky Way looks like.
