Larry,
Its appropriate to discuss the R-388 here on this list, since it is
related to the R-390 family.  First cousins, perhaps?

That said, there are periodic threads for the R-388 on the Collins CCA
and milsurplus lists.

Summer time is historically a low activity time for this and other
heavy metal radio email lists.  My theory is that our shack heaters
are likely to be turned off during hot weather.
