Steve,
    IIRC, that's not just string, it's wire.  I believe it's under pretty 
good tension, and if it stretches it'll vary the position of the drum, if 
that's the one you meant.

Anybody know a source for dial cord/string? (maybe heavy upholstery thread?) 
I need to replace the dial loading cord on my R-388.
