A good friend's dad flew the first production Huey to Alabama from the
Corpus Cristi plant. I think it was a YH-1 at the time. It had no
governor and you used manual throttle all the time. He laughed at me
when he told the story because he knew that meant "land as soon as
possible". He said he would get several compressor stalls hovering out
to takeoff until he learned the max throttle setting for that day. He
said it was normal to have a dozen each flight.
