[R-390] Yard sale find

Hi Everyone,

I found an R-391 at a yard sale on the weekend, its in very good condition. serial number 20, order number 21852-PH-50-93. There is a stamp on the back that says MWO SIG 191 JULY 20 1955. When I first seen the radio I thought this was the build date, but by the order number it would have been built in 1950, would this be the date it was put in service? I don't know anything about radios, but when I seen it I said to myself  "this looks like a serious piece of equipment". I had just bought my first shortwave radio a few weeks prior, a Blaupunkt Paris, so I asked the fellow what he wanted for it and he said forty dollars. I looked at it for a few seconds and in my infinite wisdom walked away, as I was leaving I heard him yell out make me an offer, so I said twenty dollars and the rest is history. When I went home and looked it up on the internet I was shocked! It never came with a power cord but I am going to go back this weekend and see if he has it
 somewhere. Any advice on starting it up? I assume I should have it professionally checked before powering it up? Thanks in advance.
