A number of people have advocated soap and water. I'm a bit baffled...I've
never heard of any piece of 'tronics water wouldn't muck up. I mean, won't
it get into all the coils and stuff?? As to the antenna relay, it is
entirely possible the relay was swapped out because IT was bad, and it was a
pain to hook up. This radio was sold as "used--checked", a grade above
"used--repairable" [guess from where--I've had it a long time, almost 20
years] but getting to the relay coil terminals is tight, so they may have
settled for bolting it in and going to lunch. Either way I can answer that
in about 2 seconds with a dvm on the relay coils wires and my fingers on the
function knob. Soap and water? WATER? Sorry, I know you're all being
straight with me but I'm having a REAL hard time wrapping my head around it,
especially as this radio doesn't reek of MFP varnish like my R388. BTW,
what's a "swizzle stick" in a compressed-air context? Only kind I know of
is in a mixed drink. And thank you for the xformer tip.
