Do I remember right that the bandswitching motor is not the motor  
tuning motor?  The band switching motor operates briefly and  
automatically as  you pass certain points in the overall tuning range  
(of which there are two).

The motor tuning motor is operated by the front panel switch.   I do  
not know any details about limit switches or the like.  There may be  
limit switches that are SUPPOSED to shut off that motor at the ends of  
the PTO tuning range.  If they fail, the motor would likely destroy  
the PTO.
