[R-390] off topic interesting read

Read a novel over a month ago concerning a plot to blow up a Government
building using a gas valve made in China.
The valve had been made with a back-door to its control software. The
valve was on the Internet because the valves were widely distributed.
Famous author, I think. Reminded me of the author whose hero broke into
the control room for a supercomputer with lots of gummint secrets. He
had one floppy disk to store all of that data.
As Bob Nichols said, people who make and use control systems are very
aware of the problem. Some of them are smart enough to solve it. Special
network switches are a start.
But RF is involved, no? 100 MHz and 1000 MHz broadband stuff handles RF,
even if it isn't wireless. Could spread-spectrum security be applied to
a local control network?
This is a military problem, too, even if R-390s can't solve it.
