The "Compleat and Thorough Rebuild" of an R-39x radio involves
straightening the flexible part of the slug thingey, and centering of
the adjustment hold in the rack (triangular) plate that lifts and
lowers the slug. The triangular thingey is fastened to the rack
through holes that have a bit of slack, if I have the details right.
Bob's term "wire" probably meant the spring thingey.
There are reports that a modest blob of JB Weld will get the spring
thingey glommed back onto the top of the slug.
Pardon all this precise technical terminology.
