Good question. I don’t know the answer.  The manual title is RADIO RECEIVING SET AN/URR-23A.  It says nothing about an “A” model.  All I can tell you is that of the 3 R388’s I have that are tagged, they all say R388/URR.  I don’t know if there ever was a R388A.

Someone else will have to shed light on the subject.
