I remember the picture.  Those look like medium wave transmitters and they
are very similar to broadcast gear of the era...  10KW maximum.  I cannot
imagine they were 50KW.  Back in the 70's, Somebody (Eimac?)  used to have
an ad in the back of QST with a picture of an umpteen hundred kilowatt
medium wave istallation in the Middle East and it consisted of a large
number of standard sized broadcast transmitter cabinets spaced thoughout the
room and tied together in an unspecified manner.  You could not put a
megawatt in one conenient 6'x6'x6' steel box.
