[R-390] Bunches of Radios and the Border

Hi all,

According to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radium, Radium is an alpha,
beta and gamma emitter. I'd guess that the gamma radiation would
have the energy to go through almost anything except perhaps a block
of lead. It's likely then that the gamma radiation would at least
reach the detectors. I'd guess that whether or not the sum total of
the level (power) of gamma radiation would be enough to trip the
detectors would be the issue.

As a side note, my father has had Thallium Cardiac Stress tests which
uses a radioisotope of Thallium as a tracer. The behavior of the
Thallium tracer is tracked with sensor arrays sensitive gamma
radiation. Each time my dad has had the test performed, they've
always offered a disclaimer letter in case he was planning to travel
across boarders. They made it sound like the disclaimer would be a
necessary thing.

I think the meters could easily be an issue at the border. I agree
with Gord about the "Dope sniffing rhinos".

Hey! If you want a real radioactive treat, google "The Radioactive
Boy Scout." He attempted to build his own breeder reactor for his
atomic energy merit badge. Highly entertaining. It's yet another
example of, "Truth is stranger than fiction."

Jon, WA3MVM
