I emailed the auction lister and very very gently asked why the  
reference tubes (they're not even regulator tubes) were so costly as  
they can be had nearly everywhere else for under $5.

His answer -

"THESE ARE PERFECTLY MATCHING THIS MAKES THESE WORTH 50X MORE. I  
WOULD KNOW!!"

How does this jibe with his "dad kept them in a cigar box" story?   
You figure it out.

geesh, the last 3 or 4 I got from AES had matching date codes  too,  
but they were only $3.50 or so each.

If you're sitting down, check the seller's other items. Lots of  
pricey @rare@
stuff.
