Thanks to all who took the trouble to answer my rather elementary question. It was that I had never seen a *dogbone* before... bottom-line (as the MBA's say) is they are indeed ceramic caps and therefore probably subject to the similar rates of failure of a disc ceramic. They are clearly NOT to be treated as a waxed paper cap.
