Jon,

You need a copy of Hyperterm running under early windows.

Goggle a manual for the application.

If you slowed it down to the right baud and set the bits it would do RTTY.

It just did 5 volt TTL on most serial ports. Or + - 12 volts on old PS that 
still had those voltages in the power supply. The PC ports never did a current 
loop that would directly interface to a TTY loop.

So you need some interface between the PC and the transmitter and receiver.
Not a lot of circuit but something for isolation and voltage shifting.

Relays will do it at RTTY speed.

You may use a diode and a resistor off the diode load  to drive a relay for 
the receive side.
