G'day... Roy asked re the use of a  Racal MA.257.
It is a -' stepping unit used with  a Panoramic Recording receiver Type
RA.166B-1 in which the RA-17 has a modified  first variable freq. oscillator
stage  to provide automatic Mhz  band switching to extend the maximum
spectrum width recorded to 10 Mhz.'-- unquote.
.... I know little more than that...
