[R-390] Do I really need the green gear?

Although I have been able to mechanically align
the rf deck on  my R-390, by removing the xtal
osc deck so I could view the marks, I may need
to remove the rf deck for further work.  Do I
really need the green gear or is there another
way to hold the alignment when removing the
rf deck?
