300 Watts is oversized. According to my
metering, a 390A on power-on draws a brief initial spike (cold
filaments, filter caps if you've solid-stated the rectifiers),
then drops to about 0.7 Amps for about 5 seconds, then goes
up to about 0.95 Amps steady-state as soon as all the tubes begin
drinking B+. On my AC clamp meter I can see the meter wiggle a little with
audio output and AGC, and also see it wiggle a little as I go from
the 7Mc to 8Mc band and the 17Mc oscillator gets turned off.

0.95 Amps is the 110-120 Watt ballpark if they sell such a thing.

I'm guessing that 300 Watt inrush limiters are probably sold for
transmitters and not receivers. Actually not sure I'd want one on
a transmitter! Having the inrush limiter kick in and out every
time I key-down could probably be quite disconcerting... I'm sure
they work best with steady loads.

Tim.
