The LM317 will handle up to 40 volts on the input, and can be
configured to supply 30 volts. If the unregulated input is above 30
volts, then you'll need an LM317HV.
There may be newer parts that are better, but the LM317 should work
and is readily available. The 317HV might be hard to find.

The LM317 will go down to 1.5 volts.
