For some years from the mid '70s through the late '80s or early '90s, 
there would be a pile of heavy metal left behind after every ham fest 
because nobody wanted to pay $25 for 390s, SP-600s, etc.  I took a 
few home, but saw hundreds of them tossed (not gently) into trucks 
and hauled off for scrap.  And I don't go to that many ham 
fests.  Those were the days....
