[R-390] OT: Pacemaker

Pardon the off-topic note, but it is important - at least, to me.

I just had a heart pacemaker put in. It comes with a big booklet of all the
things you are supposed to avoid. Some are obvious (MRI machines, airport
security scans), but some were not: arc welders, radio transmitters, and
soldering irons were specifically mentioned. BTW, it appears microwave ovens
are OK these days.

As I am not quite ready to give up those things (well, maybe I can do
without arc welders), I'm curious if there are other pacemaker porters out
there and if they have had any trouble. Are the cautions for real or are
they overly conservative? Can I still use my 2-watt hand-held 2m
transceiver? How about the 5-watt one?

Thanks.
